Ophelia was unable to end her school year and was retained in third grade. Her uncle that she was living with suddenly died and this spiraled the entire family into a state of grief and economic despair. Her uncle was the breadwinner in the family and with his passing, the family is struggling. The ripple effect of such a tragedy is: sometimes the children must help out with the subsistence farming activities or other income generating activities. The family appears to be stable now and Ophelia is excited about another chance to complete third grade. Thanks to our GPA sponsor network who is truly the light in the dark.
