Melvina was promoted to the third grade this year, and her teacher has noticed how much her writing has improved. She loves to read and always turns in her homework on time. Her teacher is grateful to have her in class and often praises her hard work. After school, Melvina doesn’t have much time to rest. She goes straight to the market to buy food for her family, carefully managing what little money they have. When she gets home, she starts cooking, making sure her siblings and parents have a meal before she eats. Even with so many responsibilities at home, Melvina is determined to do well in school. She dreams of a better future and works hard every day to make it happen. Her teacher believes she has a bright future ahead. Sponsored by: Karla Thennes

Melvina has been promoted to the second grade! Although she didn’t get the double promotion she hoped for, she worked extremely hard to try and achieve it, and for that, we are very proud. She still dreams of becoming a nurse one day and continues to live with her mother. Sponsored by: Karla Thennes

Melvina lives in Gbapa, Liberia with her unemployed, widowed mother. Since the death of Melvina’s father, their mother has been struggling to make ends meet. She simply cannot afford to send the kids to school. Melvina hopes to be a nurse when she grows up.
