Marthaline has been promoted to the second grade, a testament to her hard work and determination throughout the year. Her achievement is a source of pride for both herself and those around her. Marthaline’s grandmother, recognizing her dedication to her studies, fulfilled her promise by assigning her fewer chores, allowing her to concentrate on her academics.

With a passion for reading, Marthaline excels in her favorite subject. Despite the challenges she faces, she remains steadfast in her dream of becoming a doctor one day. Continuing to reside with her grandmother, Marthaline is supported in her aspirations as she continues her educational journey.

Despite all her best efforts, Marthaline did not pass to her next grade level.  Life’s circumstances is taking a toll on Marthaline’s ability to juggle school activities with home activities.  She lives with her grandmother and assists her with cooking, cleaning, fetching water, and other activities before and after school.  Marthaline’s grandmother will scale down her household chores to enable better academic performance for her granddaughter during this school year. Meet Marthaline Gogbay, who has been generously sponsored by Herb Kohl.  She is 7 years old has never been to school. She’ll be starting school for the first time this year in ABC. She lives in Gehwee, Liberia with her grandmother. Marthaline’s mother has been sick and can not do physical work. She is being raised by her grandmother who could not afford to send Marthaline to school.  Her interests are helping her grandmother and she hopes to be a doctor when she grows up.
