HELLENA: S1109-SEC
October
2025
Hellena is a 13-year-old girl who is currently in the fourth grade, and her journey to education has been filled with challenges. Four years ago, Hellena’s father abandoned the family, leaving her mother to raise seven children on her own. With no steady support and limited resources, Hellena’s mother was forced to make an incredibly difficult decision—she placed Hellena and two of her siblings in the care of a relative, hoping they would have a better chance at survival. Hellena now lives with her aunt, who is doing her best to care for her alongside her own children. While the aunt is loving and supportive, she also carries many responsibilities and has limited financial means. Because of this, Helena has not been able to attend school regularly, often missing out on the consistency every child needs to succeed academically. Despite these hardships, Hellena remains hopeful and eager to learn. She values education deeply and is grateful for the opportunity to be in school whenever she can. Being sponsored means stability, consistency, and hope for Hellena—a chance to focus on her studies without the constant worry of being sent home due to unpaid fees. Hellena’s story is one of resilience and quiet strength. With support, she now has the opportunity to continue her education, grow in confidence, and work toward a brighter future. Her family is deeply thankful for this chance, and Hellena is determined to make the most of it. Sponsored by: Phil Vasby
