Helena is 17 years old and continuing in 6th grade this year. Although she did not pass last year due to academic changes, she remains determined and motivated to improve. English is her favorite subject, and she shared that Girl Power Africa’s support—especially school fees and materials—has helped her return to school with renewed focus. This year in Liberia, many public schools conducted a reassessment of students. Based on the results, some children—including your sponsored student—were placed in a lower grade or asked to repeat a grade to better match their current learning level. This adjustment is not due to any wrongdoing or lack of effort—it is simply to ensure they are in the grade where they can learn, grow, and succeed with confidence. Helena was promoted to 4th grade!  Her favorite subject is English and she’s performing very well in her lessons. Meet Helena, who has been generously sponsored by Jennifer Parker. She is 10 years old and is in the 2nd grade this year. Helena lives in Sanniquellie, Liberia with her widowed mother who is unemployed and could not afford to send her 4 children to school.  Her interests are playing with her brothers, and she hopes to be a nurse when she grows up. This sweet little girl kept on praying during her interview with her hands up to her face. She kept saying “God, please help me to go to school. God, please help me so they can choose me”.
