2022
Helena was retained in the 1st grade for unknown reasons. At fourteen years old, she considered herself as a failure. We explained to her there is no such thing as failures once you are willing to keep trying. This brought a smile to her face and renewed her confidence. Thanks to our sponsors for the gift of second chances. She has been re-enrolled into school for the 2022/2023 school year. She continues to live with her grandmother. Sponsored by: Joyce Jorgensen

2021
Thanks to the generous donation from Courtney Rucks, Helena has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. She received an incomplete for the 2020/2021 school year. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, schools in Liberia had irregular school schedule. This combined with the lack of technology in the schools, some schools made the decision to keep students in their current grade level for the 2021/2022 school year. Helena was kept in her current grade level of 1st grade for the upcoming school year. She continues to live with her grandmother and still wants to be a doctor when she grows up.

Please meet Helena, who has been generously sponsored by Jana McGregor and her family. She is 10 years old in ABC and is going to school for the first time this year. Helena lives in Barpa, Liberia with her grandmother. Helena’s mother passed away 3 years ago while in childbirth and the family do not know the whereabouts of Helena’s father. She’s living with her grandmother who is unemployed and could not afford to send her to school. She hopes to be a doctor when she grows up.
