This year, George’s school participated in a nationwide reassessment of students in Liberia. After careful evaluation, it was determined that George would benefit most from returning to kindergarten 1, as he was not yet at the second-grade learning level. While this adjustment was disappointing for George, it was made with his best interests in mind to ensure he receives the support and foundation he needs to grow. George is a special needs student, and simply being able to attend a regular school alongside other children is a meaningful achievement for him. He is grateful for the opportunity to be in school and continues to show quiet determination as he learns and adapts at his own pace. Through Girl Power Africa, George has experienced many “firsts” in his life. Before this program, he had never seen a camera, ridden in a car, or traveled to the capital city. Being able to come and receive his school materials was a major milestone for him and represents just how far he has come. Though he remains shy and is still learning to feel comfortable in new environments, George continues to make steady progress. George’s journey is one of patience, growth, and hope. Thank you for believing in him, supporting him, and walking alongside him as he continues to learn and thrive in his own time.. Sponsored by: Tina Hinchley

George has been promoted to the 2nd grade and continues to work on becoming more comfortable in front of a camera. Taking pictures was something he had never done before until Girl Power empowered him a few years ago. While George is still very shy, he is making progress and gaining more confidence with each passing day. His journey of growth and self-assurance is truly inspiring. Sponsored by: Tina Hinchley

Our future builder, George, is nine years old this year and was promoted to kindergarten-2 class. He still lives with his grandmother and loves creating “houses” made out of sticks and other readily available local materials. George’s desire to become a builder is matched by his aptitude in making things with his hands. With support from its amazing sponsor network, GPA is honored to support George’s educational journey and nurture his dream of becoming a builder. Sponsored by: James Barker

Thanks to the generous donation from James Barker, George has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. He received an incomplete for the 2020/2021 school year. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, schools in Liberia had irregular school schedule. This combined with the lack of technology in the schools, some schools made the decision to keep students in their current grade level for the 2021/2022 school year. George was kept in his current grade level of K-1 grade for the upcoming school year. He continues to live with his grandmother and still wants to be a builder when he grows up.

Meet George, who has been generously sponsored by Ainsley Barker. He is 7 years old and is in the K-1 grade this year. He lives in Borsonnor Town, Liberia with his grandmother. Both of his parents are alive but have no money and no jobs to help feed him or send him to school. His grandmother took him with the intentions of sending him to school. Unfortunately, she recently got sick and has been unable to go to the farm to support she and George. His interests are building things and he hopes to be a house builder when he grows up. He told our team that he will build his grandma a house.
