Esther, age 16, lives with her parents in Zorgowee, Nimba County, Liberia. Her family continues to struggle financially, making it difficult for them to support her education. She attends Zorgowee Public School and is currently repeating the second grade after not passing last year. Esther shared that she is working hard to improve her reading skills, which has been one of her biggest challenges.
She explained that the support from Girl Power Africa has helped her remain in school. Receiving school supplies, a book bag, and assistance with fees has encouraged her to stay focused and continue her studies. Esther said she feels good about returning to school this year and is determined to succeed. Her goal for the school year is to work harder so she can finally be promoted to the next class.
Esther helps at home with chores such as cooking, cleaning, and collecting water. She mentioned that her mother motivates her to keep learning, even when school feels difficult. Esther hopes her education will one day allow her to help her family and improve their living conditions.
She shared that without GPA’s help, her parents would not be able to keep her in school. She is grateful for the support that allows her to continue her education and work toward a better future.
Girl Power Africa is proud to continue supporting Esther and her commitment to learning.
This year in Liberia, many public schools conducted a reassessment of students. Based on the results, some children—including your sponsored student—were placed in a lower grade or asked to repeat a grade to better match their current learning level. This adjustment is not due to any wrongdoing or lack of effort—it is simply to ensure they are in the grade where they can learn, grow, and succeed with confidence. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.Sponsored by: Beth Mitchell

Though promoted to the kindergarten-2 class, 12-year-old Esther barely passed her pre-kindergarten class. Her teachers say Esther needs tutoring. Conduct-wise, Esther is celebrated in her class and school. With the scholarship, uniform, and school supplies support given by GPA, Esther has vowed to improve her overall academic performance. We are hopeful that her age, coupled with GPA support, will give Esther the added advantage she needs to focus on improving her studies. Her favorite subject is writing, and she still lives with her aunt in Zorgowee. Sponsored by: Donations from General Funds

Meet Esther, who has been generously sponsored by an Anonymous donor (Mohamad). She is 10 years old and is in the ABC grade this year. She lives in Zorgowee, Liberia with her aunt. Her father took her to her aunt to live because he could not afford to properly take care of her. Unfortunately, two years ago he died from a snake bite. Her interests are cooking and being with her friends. She hopes to be a teacher when she grows up.
