Alvin is 9 years old and is currently in second grade. Math is his favorite subject, and his teacher shared that he has become more focused and active in class, taking his lessons seriously. Alvin feels very happy to be in school and is motivated to work hard toward promotion. He shared that Girl Power Africa’s support helps keep him in school during a difficult time at home, as his mother is struggling and his father is away. Alvin is an 8-year-old boy with a big heart and a bright future ahead of him, even though life has presented him with many challenges. This year, he is in the 1st grade, but his journey to education has been difficult. Alvin used to live with his grandmother, who lovingly cared for him. However, after his grandmother tragically passed away from COVID-19, Alvin was given to live with his aunt. Alvin’s mother is a student and, unable to afford to support him, made the difficult decision to entrust Alvin’s care to her sister. His aunt, who has four children of her own, faces financial struggles, and though she loves Alvin dearly, she cannot afford to send him to school on a regular basis. Despite these hardships, Alvin remains hopeful about his future. He dreams of becoming a doctor when he grows up. His dream of helping others and making a difference keeps him motivated, even when the circumstances around him are tough. Alvin knows that education is the key to achieving his goal, and he does his best to learn whenever he can. Alvin’s story is one of resilience and hope. Even after losing his grandmother and facing many challenges, he holds on to his dream of becoming a doctor, determined to overcome the obstacles in his way.
