January 2024: Mary is a forty-nine-year-old single mother caring for her family of seven children.  Her husband went out of town to seek work in a gold mine and never returned.  Mary and her older children work on other people’s farms to earn a livelihood.  Mary wants to diversify her income by cooking and selling food I her neighborhood.  She was given an economic empowerment grant to buy cooking supplies to begin her “side” business.
