January 2024: Forty-two-year-old Kou is a single mother providing for her seven children through subsistence farming.  Kou’s story speaks of her current focus to discern ways and means to feed her family and keep her children in school. Her long dream is to one day build a house and move out of the makeshift housing they presently occupy. Her older children’s school day ends midafternoon and they go to the farm to assist their mother with the farming chores.  Kou requested assistance to expand her farming enterprise and was given a farming supplies package.
