Celestine is 14 years old and is currently repeating the fourth grade after missing school last year due to her aunt’s illness as she was her caregiver. Reading is her favorite subject, and she shared that she feels excited and motivated to return to school. Celestine lives with her uncle and aunt following the recent loss of her grandfather, who previously helped support the family. She is grateful for Girl Power Africa’s support with school fees and materials, which allows her to continue her education. Celestine hopes to become a class leader, and one day serve her community as a lawyer. Sponsored by: Tina Hinchley
Note to Sponsor:
This year in Liberia, many public schools conducted a reassessment of students. Based on the results, some children—including your sponsored student—were placed in a lower grade or asked to repeat a grade to better match their current learning level. This adjustment is not due to any wrongdoing or lack of effort—it is simply to ensure they are in the grade where they can learn, grow, and succeed with confidence. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Celestine is a determined 13-year-old girl in the 4th grade this year. She lives with her uncle and his family, who are doing their best to support her despite their limited resources. Unfortunately, her uncle cannot afford to send her to school every day, which makes it challenging for her to keep up with her studies. Despite these obstacles, Celestine is passionate about her education and dreams of becoming a teacher when she grows up. She believes that education is the key to a better future, not just for herself but for her community. After school, Celestine has a busy routine. She heads to the creek to fetch water, a task that requires both strength and patience. Once back home, she cooks meals for the family and ensures the house is clean and organized. Only after finishing all her chores, does she sit down at night to focus on her homework, often working late into the evening by candlelight or under the dim glow of a kerosene lamp. Celestine’s determination to balance her responsibilities at home with her education is truly inspiring. She dreams of one day standing in front of a classroom, helping other children learn and achieve their goals, just as she is striving to do now. Sponsored by: Tina Hinchley
