YEI:E1043-MAO

November 2025: Meet Yei, a 57-year-old widow and mother whose life has been shaped by hard work, family, and perseverance. Yei is the mother of six biological children, though only two of her youngest children are still young enough to be living at home with her. In earlier years, Yei and her husband ran a large farming business together with the help of their children. Farming was a family effort, and the land provided both income and stability for their household. When Yei’s husband passed away, everything changed. Her older children went on to build lives of their own, leaving Yei with her two younger children. While they do their best to help her on the farm, they do not yet have the strength needed for the heavy work farming requires. On her own, Yei struggled to maintain the farm at the level she once had, and the lack of proper materials made it even more difficult. Seeking support, Yei came to Grow Power Africa for assistance with farming materials and the opportunity to work as part of a team. Through this support, she was able to join a group of women who work together to create larger, shared farms. By combining their labor and resources, they are able to grow more, sell their produce together, and share the proceeds—making it possible to better care for their families. Yei has never been to school herself, and she understands the challenges that come with limited education. Because of this, her greatest hope is to educate her children as best as she can and give them opportunities she never had. She is extremely grateful for the farming materials and the chance to work in a supportive team environment. Yei’s story is one of resilience, gratitude, and the power of community—showing how shared effort can restore hope and build a stronger future.
