YEABAH:E1041-MAO

November 2025:  Meet Yeabah, a 44-year-old widow whose strength and perseverance are reflected in the family she cares for every day. Yeabah is the mother of four children of her own and also the caregiver to four additional children from her late husband’s other relationships. Since his passing, she has taken on the responsibility of raising all eight children, united as one family under her care. After losing her husband, Yeabah quickly realized how difficult life had become, especially when it came to farming. She shared that farming is not a one-woman job—or even a one-man job—but work that truly requires a team. Without the support and labor her husband once provided, maintaining a productive farm on her own became nearly impossible. Determined not to give up, Yeabah came to Girl Power Africa seeking help with farming materials and the opportunity to join a group where women could work together. Through Girl Power Africa, Yeabah was connected to a collective of women who farm side by side, creating larger shared farms. Together, they combine their labor, support one another through planting and harvesting, and sell their produce as a group. The proceeds are shared, allowing each woman to better provide for her family and send their children to school. Yeabah was never able to attend school herself, as her family could not afford it when she was a child. Because of this, she holds a deep hope that her children will have a different future—one shaped by education and opportunity. She is extremely grateful for the support she has received, knowing it brings her closer to giving all eight children a chance at a better life. Yeabah’s story is one of resilience, gratitude, and the power of community, showing how shared effort can turn hardship into hope.
