WEEKIE:E1038-MAO

November 2025:  Weekie is a 40-year-old single mother of five whose life has been shaped by resilience, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to her children’s future. She has never been to school herself, and because of this, she understands deeply how limiting life can be without an education. It is this experience that fuels her strongest desire: she does not want her children to go through what she went through or face the same struggles without the opportunity to learn and grow through schooling. For many years, farming was Weekie’s livelihood. The land provided food for her family and income to send her children to school—something she considers her greatest achievement. However, as the cost of seeds, tools, and farming materials continued to rise, restarting her farm became impossible on her own. Despite her experience and determination, the financial barriers were simply too high, and she feared losing the one path that had always sustained her family. When Weekie came to Girl Power seeking assistance with farming tools, she brought with her not only need, but hope. With this support, she was able to return to farming—this time as part of a collective effort. Working in a group setting has allowed Weekie and other women to combine their labor, share resources, and support one another. Together, they cultivate the land, harvest their crops, and sell their produce, transforming shared effort into lasting opportunity. Today, Weekie is extremely grateful. Through farming, she is once again able to send all five of her children to school and provide stability for her family. Even more, she takes pride in being part of a stronger, united community where women lift each other up, ensure their children receive an education, and build a better future together. Weekie’s story is one of perseverance, sacrifice, and hope—a powerful reminder that with the right support, determination can grow into lasting change.
