Rebecca is a single mom with a 5 year old daughter. She was 15 years old and in the 6th grade when she had gotten pregnant with her daughter. Rebecca told me “Old Ma, it was embarrassing going to school when I was pregnant, but I really wanted to complete my education. After I delivered, I stayed home with the baby for 1 year because I was breast feeding her. I will go around from house to house asking people if I can wash their clothes or cut their grass and they will pay me 100LD to 150LD ($1-1.50 USD) if I work. From that money I will buy food for me and my daughter, then I will save small money for my uniform and shoes for the next school year. I did that until I went in the 8th grade, that’s when stopped because no one was hiring for people to wash clothes. Everywhere I go, they tell me the country is hard, no job. Things are really hard on me Old Ma, that’s why my pastor told me to come see if Girl Power can help me.” These are photos of Rebecca receiving her new supply of selling goods to now be able to successfully start her very own business.
