ORETHA: E897-BOA
January 2024: Forty-two-year-old Oretha is a single mother providing for five children through subsistence farming. Oretha shared three goals: “1. Keep my children fed; 2. Send my children to school; 3. Build a house.” Oretha’s husband divorced her in 2019 citing “she was too strong willed”. Oftentimes, women’s opinions in rural Liberian households are overlooked. Oretha’s resilience is noteworthy! All three of her school age children are in school. She realizes as they age more income will be required to sustain school enrollment while also enrolling the younger ones in school when they become of age. Oretha was granted a farming supplies package to expand her subsistence farming enterprise. Sponsored by: CoStar Group
