CAROLINE:E1039-MAO

November 2025:  Caroline is a 30-year-old single mother of three whose life has always been rooted in farming. She has never been to school, and from a very young age, her education came from the land itself. Growing up in a family of farmers, she learned by watching, listening, and working alongside her parents. Farming is not just a skill to Caroline—it is all she has ever known and the foundation of how she provides for her family. As an adult raising children of her own, Caroline wanted to continue the way of life she was brought up in. However, without her own farming materials, it was difficult for her to farm independently and earn a steady income. Determined to rely on the knowledge she already had, she came to Girl Power Africa seeking assistance with farming tools so she could start her own farm and better support her children. With the support she received, Caroline was given the opportunity to farm again within a group setting she calls a “susu.” In this system, members work together by rotating their labor—coming together to help on one person’s farm and then moving on to the next. The group helps Caroline on her farm, and in return, she goes to support others on theirs. This shared effort has increased productivity while building trust, cooperation, and a strong sense of community. Caroline is extremely grateful for the opportunity Girl Power Africa has given her. Through farming and collective support, she is now able to care for her children, strengthen her livelihood, and stand confidently in the knowledge she has gained through experience. Her story is one of resilience, gratitude, and unity—showing that even without formal schooling, determination and the right support can create lasting change.
