FAVOR: S172-DUA

November

2023

Favor has been promoted to the first grade, steadfast in her dream of one day becoming a doctor. She expresses profound gratitude to Girl Power Africa for their unwavering support, stating, “The reason I work so hard is because I want to make my sponsor proud.” Favor’s affinity for math shines through as her favorite subject. After school, she takes on the responsibility of caring for her siblings and preparing dinner each night. Despite her busy schedule, Favor continues to reside with her mother, supported by her determination and resilience as she pursues her aspirations.

2019

Thanks to the generous donation from Monica Engel, Favor has been re-enrolled into school for the 2019/2020 school year. Embracing the principle of second chances, we have issued a warning to Favor and her mother, urging them to prioritize education. They have both committed to diligently supporting Favor’s attendance and academic performance.

June 2019

We are sorry to announce that Favor did not complete the 2018-2019 school year and remains in ABC. Her mother, who’s an alcoholic, did not allow she and her sister, Angel, to go to school consistently because they needed to stay home to take care of their younger siblings. Favor’s attendance was at 53%.  Tori and Monica, thank you for your sponsorship and giving your student a gift of education.  We are taking it a step further and working directly with the mother to better support the children. We hope to have her mother as a Girl Power Africa woman’s program recipient as well to get more support.

Tori and Monica, we extend our gratitude for re-sponsoring Favor and providing her with the invaluable gift of education. However, we regret to inform you that she did not pass this year due to inconsistent attendance. In a collaborative effort involving Favor, her teacher, and ourselves, we emphasized the significance of consistent school attendance and the vital role education plays in her future. We kindly requested assistance in spreading this message to Favor’s mother and reinforcing the importance of education in her life.

Meet Favor, who has been generously sponsored by Tori Swenson.  She is five years old and is going to school for he first time this year. Favor and her sisters were abandoned by her father and lives in Duazon, Liberia with her mother.  Favor and her family have been practically homeless due to their mother being an unemployed alcoholic.  Her interests are cooking, laundry, and playing with her sisters. She hopes to be a doctor when she grows up to take care of sick people.
