January 2024: Louise is thirty-seven years old and provides for her six children by selling a local, organic wine (palm wine) made within the trunks of palm trees.  Palm trees are in abundance in tropical Liberia and local experts make and harvest palm wine on a daily basis.  Louise and others purchase the palm wine wholesale for retail sale in their communities.  While the profit is steady, it is too small to move Louise’s income from subsistence to profit making.  Louise was given an economic empowerment grant to diversify her business enterprise by including purchasing and selling consumable goods alongside the palm wine.
