January 2024: Kou is a fifty-nine-year-old widow striving to provide for her family through subsistence farming.  Kou’s husband passed away a decade ago from an unknown illness.  She shared the story of leaving her husband on their farm to go to town for supplies and when she returned, she “met his dead body in the middle of the farm”.  Perhaps a heart attack? Perhaps a massive stroke? Kou was faced with the sole responsibility of raising her family.  Since his death she has been unable to sustain their children in school and now desires to build a house for her family.  They currently live in makeshift housing.  Kou requested for (and was granted) a farming supplies package.
